CCH Alumni Spotlight: Rachel Leyco

Written By CCH Staff on July 18, 2017

Recent Columbia College Hollywood graduate and full-fledged filmmaker, Rachel Leyco is taking the film festival circuit by storm with her socially-relevant short, Bicultural. With official selections at the 2017 Houston Asian-American Pacific Islander Film Festival and North Carolina Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, as well as an award for Best Ensemble at Asians on Film-Winter Quarter; Bicultural will be premiered at Outfest onJuly 14th and 15th.

Bicultural is a short film about a young Filipino-American woman who is struggling to assert her identity as a lesbian. Torn between her family’s strong traditions and living life on her terms, her worlds begin to collide; making her journey all the more challenging.

Rachel wrote and starred as the lead character and co-produced and co-directed the project with current CCH student, TC Smith. The short was inspired and based on a TV show. She is an accomplished actor in TV, Film, Commercial and Print work. Her heart is in the storytelling. By sharing her voice and vision with the masses, it allows her to convey her message of unity and preservation of tradition, while still celebrating diversity.

You can watch the trailer to Bicultural on the film’s YouTube page. Want to learn more about Rachel and all the amazing things she is doing? Check out her website: http://www.officialrachelleyco.com

Columbia College Hollywood is beyond excited to see one of our Alumni rise to the occasion and put their work out into the world. Rachel’s dedication to her craft, confidence and clear vision is an example of the kind of filmmakers that the school helps to create.
