Columbia College Hollywood students had the amazing opportunity to work with the improv world’s music master, Laura Hall. Many know Laura Hall as the lovely lady on the keys from the hit show, Whose Line Is It Anyway? She was joined by her equally talented husband, Rick Hall, to help CCH students learn how to make a song on-the-fly as well as key techniques to use in all types of improvisational situations.
CCH’s Improv Club leader, Kendall Collins, took center stage with his classmates to do a little “Hai-dee-dai-dee-dai” an Irish Drinking Song that utilized an assortment of themes ranging from a first date to Mother’s Day. Both Laura and Rick helped CCH students flesh-out ideas and offered up suggestions on how to survive when your mind draws a blank on your turn around. Students had a blast pushing their creativity to the limits while learning from the talented musical duo.
Columbia College Hollywood often holds workshops involving industry leaders and professionals in an effort for students to get information and instruction straight from the source. Learning from active members of the entertainment community helps bridge the gap between theory and practice. Students can learn how hard work, perseverance and dedication to a craft pay off and see how their input and voice can make a difference.
